To someone I didn't know very well, but I did talk to over the phone, and I knew his family. Scott Kalitta died Saturday when his Funny Car burst into flames and crashed at the end of the track during the final round of qualifying for the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.
This hits close to home, the company I work for sales weatherstations to Race car drivers, I'm pretty sure I talked about this before. But when I heard this on the news this morning, I almost started crying. I find it to be very sad, and my heart breaks for his family. A couple years ago, my boss took us to a race, which was a lot of fun. Well Kalitta Racing needed help installing software, so they invited me into their trailer to help them. Which by the way was freakin awesome!!! I was never into racing until I started working at Altalab. Even the first year I was just like whatever, but the more I got into it, the more I enjoyed talking to these people and helping them win the race. It was very cool to be able to sit there and help them out. But I forgot all about it until this morning, when I heard the news. Then I remembered I sit there and talked to him and helped him that weekend.
This is a picture of the inside of the trailer, Jonathan didn't get me in the picture...too bad, but if you look to the right I'm sitting in a chair on the computer...I really wish he would have got me in the picture, but oh well.
Today at work there was a silence, I've never heard. The phones didn't ring once today, no phone calls from racers to say that they had a problem or nothing at all. Which is weird b/c on Mondays we always get lots of calls from people who had problems or needs replacement parts b/c they broke something on the weekend. I mean Mondays are usually so busy, but nope not today. No calls from anyone. It was almost like I could feel these sad people mourning over their beloved husband, dad, son, and friend. He really was a wonderful person. I will keep his family in my prayers.
Totally off topic...Amy I promise I will blog about my wanting a baby tomorrow:)
